Some great feedback

Harriet and I were really pleased to receive some excellent feedback this week. It’s always great to hear when someone thinks you have done a god job.

I have nothing but utter praise for Harrelle Wedding Consultants. Their customer service is some of the best that I have received whilst planning my wedding. The are willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to help couples in their times of stress and need. They are extremely friendly with a professional manner. I would definitely recommend them to any bride.

It’s been a pleasure working with you too Holly – thanks for your comments.

Whitely Hall Wedding Fair

Whitley Hall Hotel Wedding Open DayThis weekend Harrelle were at Whitely Hall wedding fair for the second time.

The day was a real success, so much so that we handed out all of our information in the first couple of hours. Apologies to anyone arriving later in the day to whom we were only able to give our business cards and not our more comprehensive information booklet. Hopefully I managed to speak to everyone on the day and any further information is available on our website – if not please contact us no matter how small your enquiry.

The only down side was the rain! It rained last time too so I hope we aren’t bringing Whitely Hall bad luck, having said that it is England and it was February so I am not entirely sure what I was expecting! Mainly I just feel sorry for the Peacocks!

Anyway we’re looking forward to the next one later in the year – we’ll post details on our blog once we know the date.

Nothing to tell!

Well it’s been a quiet week this week. I’ve been taking the opportunity to get some house decorating done and Harriet has had family staying – well you can’t work hard all of the time!

Really we’re both just enjoying the quiet before the storm as we’ve got a busy marketing week planned next week. We are thinking of selling some of our favourite wedding invitation designs on ebay. As January can be a headache financially for all of us we thought it might be an affordable option for those needing to buy their stationery who haven’t got a fortune to spend but don’t want to go for the truly homemade look! We’ll let you know how it takes off.

Whitley Hall Open Day – 27th February 2010

Whitley Halls next open day is being held on 27th February 2010.

This is always a lovely day where the staff make a real effort to show people around the venue in their own time and with no pressure. The only suppliers at the venue on the day are the ones Whitley Hall are happy to recommend and there is always a really lovely atmosphere around the venue as a result.

Harrelle are happy to be involved again and recommends anyone looking for a lovely romantic venue in the area to come and take a look around. It is also the perfect opportunity for couples already booked with Whitley to revisit the venue and meet local suppliers who are reliable and tested.

What’s in store for 2010?

It is safe to say that the issues in the economy have not affected the proposals of marriage – so what’s in store for the brides of 2010?

A smaller budget sometimes means more innovative ideas are brought to the table for example favours are being made by the couple and the family which add a more personal touch. More and more receptions are taking place in back gardens meaning that there is a blank canvas for the couple to create and reflect their own personalities.

Handmade Favour

I believe this year will highlight to all of us the potential for a different style of wedding. I predict that weddings will become more relaxed, intimate affairs this year and with the internet at our finger tips and a world wide web of ideas there is no limit to the possibilities.

Wedding fayres – what are your thoughts?

Myself and Ellie have mixed feelings, we have been to a few that remind us of cattle markets where you end up rushing to get to the finish! On the other side of the coin we have also attended several that have been thoroughly enjoyable where you can wander around various rooms of the venue at your leisure. Most recently we have held stands at Whitley Hall and Whirlowbrook Hall, both were a real success showcasing both the venue and the suppliers they are proud to recommend – but hard work on the feet!

Why do we hold stands at Wedding fayres? The simple answer is so couples (and their families) can see what we have to offer at a glance and it is the perfect opportunity for them to ask searching questions about how we can help them. We can also display our handmade stationery (which is approx 30% cheaper than competitors whilst maintaining the quality – what more can you ask for!)

We will let you know when we are attending our next Wedding Fayre.

What a busy week! 08/01/2010

It’s been a really busy week for Harriet and me what with our new website going live. Admittedly there were few teething problems like loosing our emails and a contact us button that didn’t contact us, but generally we think it’s been a big success.

We’ve also been busy looking for car companies which have vehicles big enough to seat 6 people in comfort – one of whom will of course be wearing a wedding dress! It’s actually quite amazing how tricky it is to find elegant, comfortable cars which aren’t covered in bling! As much as you want to spend as much time as possible looking at yourself on your wedding day I think a mirrored ceiling might be taking it a step to far! Limo’s for U, 1stLincs Limo and Bretton Wedding Cars managed to come up trumps in the end with some elegant cars which weren’t covered in advertising!

Trash the dress – art or insane?

Trash the dress is a concept which has been around for many years but which has become increasingly popular over the last couple. Once the wedding day and honeymoon are over many brides are choosing to don their dresses one last time to destroy them in a spectacular way whilst creating some fabulous photographs.

When I first heard about this trend I thought ‘why on earth would anyone in their right minds want to do that’? No matter what your budget your wedding dress has a lot of sentimental and monetary value. I really couldn’t understand why anyone would want to destroy it

I am however starting to come round to the idea.

Ok if you are not particularly materialistic and are more than happy to sell your wedding dress to regain some of those recently spent funds, then good for you; it’s a really sensible thing to do.

However for the rest of us who can’t quite let go of that dress which we’ve spent so long finding, fitting and which is costing more than any one other item of clothing we are ever likely to buy, not to mention the sentimental value, then actually it’s quite an interesting option.

Lets be honest the dress is only really likely to stay wrapped and hung at the back of the wardrobe, protected from harm for those ever so occasional times when we’ll want to take a sneaky peak. Any mislead dreams that maybe one day our daughters may want to get married in the same dress should quickly be laughed off – pretty as she looked I’ve seen my mum’s wedding dress and fashions certainly change!

In the bigger scheme of life any item of clothing really isn’t that important but silly as is sounds I am not sure I could ever bring myself to sell my wedding dress for another bride to wear. Yet is it not a little heart breaking to think of our wonderful wedding dresses hanging sadly at the back of the wardrobe rarely to see the light of day again?

I’ve seen photos of a bride and groom standing in a white room with several tubs of paint and two large paint brushes flicking paint all over each other. I’ve seen brides in lakes, in mud and even skydiving. Crazy as it all may sound its made for some really colourful eye catchy photos which look great blown up and hung as art.

What an excuse to do something memorial and create some spectacular art which you can treasure for ever, hung where it can be seen rather than out of sight getting moth balls! Of course you need a top photographer and I’d be tempted to go the whole hog and get a make up artist as well. I guess the biggest challenge is choosing an activity which will work for you and which can be captured spectacularly on camera.

HARRELLE HITS THE HEADLINES

Wedding plans well advanced for Harrelle

When Harriet Ratcliffe and Eleanor Crawford visited this year’s Sheffield Enterprise Show they were at the final stages of planning their wedding consultancy business Harrelle which they have now launched in the city.
Between them, the two female entrepreneurs, who both live in Sheffield, have five years experience of the event’s industry, recruitment and sales.

Harriet explained that they had recognised a huge niche for a business based on American style wedding bureaus that provide couples with a wedding planning service which can be tailored to their budget and requirements.

“We know that we are in a recession, but both feel really positive and confident that this is the right time to set up our own business.”

Harriet and Eleanor (who both have sports degrees) believe that their USP will be to offer couples the opportunity to get into shape for their big day.

Eleanor said: “We have already had lots of advice from the Sheffield Enterprise Agency and Business Link. As well as talking to a couple of BL advisers, we have also attended seminars including ‘Exploring Self Employment’ and ‘Women in Business’ which were interesting and informative.

“As you can imagine, things are really hectic at the moment. Visiting the Enterprise Show and access advice in one location saved us lots of precious time,” said Harriet.

She added: “We already have plans to expand our business model beyond Sheffield into other parts of the country and possibly over the border into Scotland.”
